Hit the wall yesterday. It occurred on the 6pm from Chester. That sinking feeling: why am I sacrificing myself for 12-hour working days?
I’m not a money guy. I know some good folks whose prime mission is to make millions but it’s not me. Making a stranger smile is like making a million. It’s the way it is.
So I was pondering, ruminating and all that good stuff to validate the permanence of my obligations. I could break the working agreement at any time.
It made sense. I could justify the effort only on a material basis. “So I work on this contract, I can buy x.” There was the slightest opportunity for a glowing reference on completion of the contract, but it wasn’t a core reason to complete.
But then like a flashgun shot it hit me, and it tied in with the stranger smile.
I can spend all the money I earn from this job to jet my and the maiden’s parents to see us in Oz.
Bang! I’m back in the zone. I’ve rationalised the efforts of rising at 6am, getting home at the same time in the pm. The pain is no more than a mask for the ultimate pleasure of creating happiness for others.
What’s the lesson in all this? It’s totally about how switching perspective and focus can turn your life around.
You want to get fit? Don’t think about the pain of going to the gym.
What about the chance to meet new people – even a new lover if you’re on the lookout. How will you feel when you hit your target? You’ll feel a million dollars. You’ll have more energy, get the impetus to buy a new, sexy wardrobe. Leaner means leader.
Need to quit smoking? Think about the pain of throwing away the deathsticks and you’ll just see sorrow. But magnify the benefits of being free of stinky smoke, fitter than ever and adding years to your valuable life and you’ll soon be on your way.
Be the master of meaning, and completely empowered by your goal. Live it. Imagine you’re already there. You can do this simply: just write down your goal and read it out loud every morning and night.
Switching perspectives is all about positive reinforcement of your vision.
If you’re unsure where to tread or lose traction on your goal, here’s a cheeky way to get back on track. Find a mentor or friend who you can share it with. Put it down in paper, or just give them a call.
Once it’s out there you’ll be amazed at the extra drive in your hands. Human nature: it’s easier to let yourself down than others.
Switching perspectives is the best way to get yourself into the zone. Accentuate the positives, live your dream as if it exists today. Turn nowhere into somewhere.
Love life, live your dreams. Have a fantastic day!
