We review everything these days, from dustpans to dolphins.
But noone reviews everyone.
We’ve all got a star in the ascendant. We’re all loved (yes, it’s true, and ain’t nothing in this candy cane land you can do aboudit). So why aren’t we living vicariously our 30 seconds of fame.
That warm, tingly vibe you get when you see someone cares. It’s a warm towel after a winter’s shower, a hot chestnut on Guy Fawkes Night.
It’s all well and good me telling you it is so, that in a moment of gooey sentimentality I’m loving you by proxy – but if you don’t feel it and it’s not being dispensed tangibly via some beefed up vending machine in the supermarket aisle marked Me, how can you get that same sentiment?
Isn’t that a shame? Apart from endorsements on LinkedIn and references on your CV, where’s the human element of people praise online?
The video people review is a panacea for insecurity and those moments where you need a lift. Not that the first two guys on the receiving end of my debut 30fps show of affection need their egos massaged.
More importantly, there can be no better way to communicate your affection for a customer than making them your star client for the week on your website. Talk about them – wish them happy birthday. Tell them you spent a few extra minutes buffing their car after changing the clutch, just because you could and because they’re worth it.
This is how I feel about it. If you get, you give. And the two boys on my showreel of awe today deserve plaudits in excess of anything I can dish out filmicly.
Arise wunderkind Gary Vaynerchuk and Chris Brogan.
If there are two men you need in your life, they’re Chris and Gary. I think between them they can make you a huge success. Huger. Here’s why.
Chris is wise. Knows it and loves to share it. He does complex and makes it look easy. A rare and beautiful trait.
Chris recently launched Man on the Go – it’s a multimedia travel guide to the latest stuff in being here and there. And it works – perfect example of what can be achieved when you have traction and set about a web experiment behind which you have already established a tribe of cognoscenti dribbling over your every last word.
Content is always insightful and intriguing, and after the brand makeover this guy rightfully deserves his role as a kingly observer and facilitator of human-powered businesses.
Vaynerchuk – what can I say about this guy. I can watch every video he’s ever made in one sitting without a beer, food, whatever, and he sates my appetite for life.
Started with wine, the boy Vee developed a personal brand around doing business – everything – with passion. He makes you want to do things better, do things that matter – and Crush It every time. I hear aside from his debut book Crush It, many more are in the pipeline. If you want a huge hit of motivation and a dose of how to do it right, Vee is your man.
That’s Chris Brogan and Gary Vaynerchuk, and why they matter to you. Now go and look them up and change your life.
